Virtual Support Center

Here at SilkQuit.Org we value the importance of contact with your quit buddies. For over a decade we've been providing services that allow quitters to get in touch. One such vehicle for contact is live chat. We recently opened our virtual support center which bridges the World Wide Web, Internet Relay Chat and the 3D virtual world of Second Life^® to provide a multiple format, single point of support.

Regardless of whether you connect via the web, IRC, or Second Life you'll be connected to a single place in space and time and will be able to chat with everybody who is connected, regardless of how they are connected.

Browser Access

To enter the IRC chat room simply enter a nickname below and click "Start Chatting". This service requires Java which may already be installed on your computer. You should permit the application to run when prompted.

Internet Relay Chat (IRC)

You can connect to our virtual support center using any IRC client. Simply connect to irc.silkquit.org and join #SilkQuit.

Second Life

For over a decade people have been quitting smoking with us. One of the most popular past-times for our quit buddies is to hang out together in real-time chat. Our IRC chat channel has had periods of immense popularity, hilarity and seriousness. 10 years ago a flat text-only chat channel was fun and exciting. But times change. Here at SilkQuit.Org we're very pleased to provide a 21st century equivalent of chat in the form of our Second Life virtual retreat center.

The virtual support center is situated on a rectangular 1024m² plot of virtual land on a private island and boasts the following primary features:

• A waterfront view
• A lounge room where you can hang out with your buddies and chat
• A library containing links to the world's most useful quit smoking resources
• A noticeboard containing the latest discussions on alt.support.stop-smoking
• A hot-tub for you and your quit buddies to relax in
• A sky diving utility where you can experience the thrill of sky diving with your quit buddies
• A dance floor with dance animations, music, and lights
• A live link to our classic IRC chat room so you won't miss a thing that's happening in the old world
